Mallard - Anas platyrhynchos

Although not a typical garden bird I have included this pair as they repeatedly visited my back garden for three days during April.  I first noticed them walking along the top of my neighbour's newly trimmed hedge towards my garden. They spent a lot of time foraging around in the three small ponds, the largest of which is only about 5 ft. x 6 ft. I appreciated their visit but I don't think the goldfish did as we didn't see then again near the surface for about two weeks.
