Bee-eater - Wheathall

Bee-eater      -        Merops apiaster

This bird was first seen on the Friday at Wheathall and was displaying well at quite close quarters. When I got there on the Saturday morning to see if I could see it there were about a dozen people wandering around but no sign of the bird. After about thirty minutes it was spotted half a mile up the road sitting on a fence post some distance away in the middle of a field. It was a cold dull spring morning with no activity by the local bees, so the Bee-eater just sat there with no chance of it getting any closer, so record shots only, but really good to see it anyway as it was the first official recoded sighting for Shropshire. Later in the day it flew off and was not reported again.
